About Us

Doncaster Secondary College is a co-educational government school for students in Years 7 to Year 12. Situated 15 kms east of Melbourne CBD, in the leafy council of Manningham, we live and learn on the lands of Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

Doncaster Secondary College has a vibrant community spirit where all students feel a sense of belonging and are engaged with their learning. With a culturally diverse and inclusive student body of over 1300 students, representing over 46 nationalities, our College offers a wide range of learning programs, co-curricular opportunities, and student-led interest clubs.

Our Vision

At Doncaster Secondary College all students are active participants in a learning culture that promotes academic excellence and personal development through a diversity of challenging experiences.

Our core purpose is reflected in the College motto ‘Working Together, Learning Together’. We are working together to enable all students to achieve their potential and become confident, effective learners who contribute productively to society.

Our Values

  • Respect for ourselves, each other, and the environment.
  • Responsibility for our own actions.
  • Resilience to embrace challenges with optimism and perseverance.
  • Teamwork is working co-operatively and constructively with others.

Our College is organized into three ‘mini schools’ each with a clear vision, embedded values and a strong understanding of their role in a student’s learning journey.

Junior School: Year 7 & 8

Our vision is to shape all Junior School students to be healthy, positive, and resilient learners who have the literacy, numeracy, personal and social capabilities to be successful in the future.

Students enrolling in Junior School come from different stages in their learning. Our Junior School educators will identify individual learning needs and deliver a program that will consolidate and master the essential skills of literacy, numeracy, and personal and social capabilities.

Middle School: Year 9 & 10

Our vision is to empower learners to have a strong sense of self so that they have the capabilities to become active and engaged members of the community.

The Middle School program is enriched with Design Thinking principles, which support learners to become critical thinkers who can respond effectively to challenges in fields such as health, community, art, environment, entrepreneurship, and STEM.

The Year 9 ‘Managing Me’ program involves introspective activities and targeted careers education so that students enter Senior School with a clear sense of purpose and the attributes to achieve their future goals.

Our Year 10 program is defined by extensive 1:1 career interviews, course counselling and work experience to enhance pathway development. We do this to ensure our Year 11 and Year 12 students are empowered to forge their own individual pathways.

Senior School: Year 10, Year 11 & 12

In Senior School we relentlessly pursue academic and vocational excellence and meaningful pathways.

Our VCE program will deliver a high standard of academic tuition and allow students to pursue their preferences to the best of their abilities. Students wishing to pursue academic and vocational excellence in Year 11 and 12 work towards a VCE or VCE-VM award.

Professional Learning Community Instructional Leaders sit within each mini-school to develop centres of teaching excellence. This is achieved through a process of peer observation, data-driven dialogue, and a sharing of best practice so that our students’ diverse learning needs are met.

Our instructional practice provides a robust assessment framework that is readily understood by all members of the community. Not only does this strengthen the learning partnership between home and school, but our students take an active role in identifying the next steps in their learning.
