At Doncaster Secondary College, our assessment framework provides opportunities for students to receive ongoing feedback on their progress and growth as a learner, each mini school provide families with additional support in how to interpret their child’s assessment outcomes.
The Victorian Curriculum
The Victorian Curriculum 2.0 sets out what every student should learn during their first eleven years of schooling. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for life-long learning, social development and active and informed citizenship.
The Victorian Certificate of Education
The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is a senior secondary certificate of education recognised within the Australian Qualifications. The VCE includes general education curriculum components and programs from Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications. Satisfactory completion of a VCE unit is based on successful completion of outcomes, demonstrating key knowledge and skills as set out in the relevant study design. Students who have met the requirements receive an S, indicating Satisfactory. Students who have not me the requirements receive an N, indicating Not-Satisfactory.
Vocational Education and Training
The VCE can include components of nationally recognised VET qualifications. Training from a nationally recognised VET or Further Education (FE) qualification can contribute towards the VCE through the following recognition arrangements: Through enrolment in a VCAA-approved VCE VET program, or a School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship.
VCE Vocational Major
The VCE Vocational Major (VCE-VM) is a two-year vocational and applied learning program that is embedded within the VCE. It consists of four subjects which make up the core of the program and enables successful transitions into apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training, or directly into employment.
Learner Profile
This refers to your student’s learning behaviours in the classroom. During the semester, these behaviours are reported to families through the Progress Report. On the end of year report, your student will be placed at Beginning if they have not or are still developing the learning behaviour, Embedding if they are demonstrating the behaviour with some consistency, and Excelling if they are consistently demonstrating the learning behaviours.
The different learning behaviours that are reported on are: Ready to Learn (arriving to class on time with their materials and ready to learn) Learning Engagement in Class (following instructions and attempting classwork with their best effort) Learning Growth (whether a student is progressing in their learning)

VCE SAC / SAT Performance Reporting
For students in VCE, they receive a performance indicator expressed through ranges to indicate their performance in SACs.
The range indicators are:
- Very High
- High
- Medium-High
- Medium-Low
- Low
- Very Low

The Five-Point Scale (Age-Related Achievement)
In Victoria, Australia, the Victorian Curriculum F-10 requires a 5-point scale to report student achievement and progress against curriculum standards. This scale is used to provide more detail on a student’s learning and to rate the quality of their achievement and progress against similar aged peers and expected levels.
